Xenia Maria
Mann began her vocal studies with Scipio Colombo in Karlsruhe. She
received further tuition with Heather Harper, London and Giulietta
Simionato, Milan. In 1994 she graduated from the Stuttgart Opera
School.
In the same year she joined the State Opera of Lower Saxony in
Hannover where her roles have included Ulrica (Ballo), Mrs.
Quickly (Falstaff), Hansel and the Mother (Hansel and Gretel),
Magdalena (Meistersinger), Erda (Rheingold), Clairon (Capriccio)
and Penelope (Ulisse).
Xenia Maria Mann is a much sought-after Oratorio singer in Germany
and other European countries. A concert tour with Handel´s Messiah
took her to Namibia and South Africa. She performs regularly with
Reinhard Goebel and Musica Antiqua Köln including radio recordings.
Xenia Maria Mann has been much acclaimed in Lied-Repertoire with
piano and orchestra as well as for her interpretations of
contemporary music. Various composers have dedicated works to her,
some of which she has recorded for CD.
Together with the producer Stefan Zednik, Xenia Maria Mann founded
in 1996 a new ensemble for experimental music-theatre, the
MusikSchauBühne Stuttgart. Projects have included a scenic
development of Handel´s Lucretia and also a very successful
programme for singer and dancer jointly created with her brother,
the dancer Frieder Mann.
In 2000 she left the State Opera Hannover and since has worked free-lance. She was a guest at the State Opera in Braunschweig, the State Opera of Nuremberg, the Landestheater in Eisenach and the Theatre of the Landeshauptstadt Kiel. In 2007 she returned to Hannover State Opera where she sang in the World Premiere of Edward Rushtons "The Pious Gemima" and in Benjamin Brittens "Peter Grimes".
